"Too hot? Too cold? Just right?"
Every parent knows the midnight anxiety of feeling their baby’s hands and wondering if they are dressed correctly. Unlike us, babies can’t pull up a blanket when they’re cold or kick it off when they’re hot. That’s where the TOG rating comes in.
What exactly is a TOG?
TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade. It’s a scientific measure of how much heat a garment retains. The higher the TOG, the warmer the sleep bag. Choosing the right one is the best way to prevent overheating—one of the most critical factors in SIDS prevention.

The "Tonight's Recipe" Logic
Picking the TOG is only half the battle. You also need to consider what goes under the sleep bag. Here are our favorite "Sleep Recipes" for a perfect night:
- ☁️ Standard Summer: A 1.0 TOG Bag + a simple Bamboo Bodysuit.
- 🧶 Spring/Fall Transition: A 1.5 TOG Ribbed Bag + Long Sleeve PJs.
- ❄️ Winter Warmth: A 2.5 TOG Quilted Bag + Long Sleeve PJs.
The Pro Tip: "Check the Chest"
Don’t judge your baby’s temperature by their hands or feet—they are often cooler than the rest of the body. Instead, place your hand on their chest or the back of their neck. If they feel warm (but not sweaty), they are perfectly dressed.
